Description
Rudrabhisheka Seva is the sacred abhisheka of the Omkareshwara Maha Rudra Devara Linga at Shri Bhaavi Sameera Vadiraja Mandira, Chintamani. Each offering of Rs. 501 sponsors one complete abhisheka on a Monday, performed with your name and gotra. Book more than one quantity when you wish the seva on successive Mondays.
Who is Maha Rudra Devaru?
At this kshetra, Maha Rudra Devaru is worshipped as the Omkareshwara linga — a svayambhu-like stone linga adorned with a white flower, turmeric and kumkuma, a red cloth, and Nandi beside the peetha. Rudra is honoured here as a guardian presence of the mandira, alongside Sri Bhootarajaru. The abhisheka is offered to this linga, not as a visit to the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga on the Narmada, but as worship of the Omkareshwara Maha Rudra Devaru consecrated at Thinakallu.
Why Monday?
Monday is Somavara, the day of Soma, the moon. In the Puranic memory of Rudra, the crescent moon rests on his head, so Somavara has long been kept for his worship. Shiva is described as abhisheka-priya: the one who receives the sacred bath gladly. Offering water, milk and the other dravyas on a Monday is the weekday the tradition itself sets aside for this seva. Shravan Mondays are especially observed, and every other Monday of the year remains auspicious for the same abhisheka.
Devotees seek this bath for peace of mind, the softening of obstacles, and protection of the household. Those are the fruits named in the tradition of Rudrabhisheka. The seva is a sankalpa and an offering, not a promise of a particular result.
How the abhisheka is performed
The archaka takes sankalpa with your name and gotra, then bathes the Omkareshwara Maha Rudra Devara Linga. In the wider tradition, Rudrabhisheka accompanies the Sri Rudram — the Namakam and Chamakam — or, in a shorter offering, the japa of Om Namah Shivaya, with water, milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar and tender coconut as the archaka prescribes for the day. Bilva is offered where the vidhi allows. The bath is completed with alankara and a prayer for the sponsor.
The mandira performs the seva on an upcoming Monday. If you book several quantities, each unit is one Monday.
Prasada
After the abhisheka, Mantrakshate, Kumkuma and a dry-fruit packet are sent to your address anywhere in India.
