Description
Gau Dana Seva is the sacred Vedic act of donating a cow with her calf (Godana) — regarded in the scriptures as the highest and most meritorious form of charity (Maha Dana). At the Ruju Yogi Foundation Gaushala in Chintamani, this supreme offering is performed with authentic Vedic ritual: a healthy indigenous Desi cow accompanied by her calf is gifted in your name to the Gaushala, where she will be lovingly cared for throughout her life. The sankalpa is performed with your name and gotra, and the full Godana Vidhi is observed under the guidance of qualified Vedic scholars.
Seva amount: Rs. 50,000 (includes one Desi cow with calf, Gaushala care, and Vedic Gau Dana pooja performed at the foundation).

- Vedic Gau Dana (Godana) pooja performed with proper mantras and sankalpa in the Seva Karta’s name and gotra
- Lifetime Gaushala care — nutritious feed, clean shelter, medical attention, and daily Gau Pooja for the donated cow and calf
- Documentation and photos of the Gau Dana ceremony shared with the Seva Karta
Pooja Items — To Be Arranged by the Seva Karta

Our team will guide you through every step so the donation is performed in full accordance with scripture.
Gau Dana in the Scriptures — The Supreme Dana
Across the Vedas, Puranas, and Itihasas, the gift of the cow stands above all other charities. When Yudhishthira asks Bhishma to describe the highest gift, the grandsire teaches the Godana Vidhi handed down from Vrihaspati to King Mandhatri — a ritual that existed from primeval time, even before it was codified in holy writ. Kings such as Mandhatri, Bhagiratha, Bharata, and Rama performed Gau Dana and attained supreme worlds.
na godānāt paraṃ kiñcid vidyate vasudhādhipa | gaur hi nyāyāgatā dattā sadyas tārayate kulam ||
There is nothing higher than the gift of a cow (Godana), O lord of Earth. A cow lawfully acquired and given away immediately rescues the entire race of the giver.
— Mahabharata, Anushasana Parva, 13.75.2 (Bhishma to Yudhishthira)
gaur me mātā govṛṣabhaḥ pitā me | divaṃ śarma jagatī me pratiṣṭhā ||
The cow is my mother. The bull is my sire. Heaven and earthly prosperity are my refuge; the cow is my foundation.
— Mahabharata, Anushasana Parva, 13.75.7 (Godana Sruti recited in the cowshed)
tathaiva gāḥ praśaṃsanti na ca deyaṃ tataḥ param | mātaraḥ sarvabhūtānāṃ gāvaḥ sarvasukhapradāḥ ||
Cows are praised thus, and there is no gift higher than them. Cows are the mothers of all beings and the bestowers of all happiness.
— Mahabharata, Anushasana Parva, 13.68.6 (Bhishma to Yudhishthira)
gopradānaṃ tārayate sapta pūrvāṃs tathā parān ||
The gift of a cow uplifts seven generations of ancestors and seven generations of descendants.
— Mahabharata, Anushasana Parva, 13.73.8
kāmān sarvān pārthivān ekasaṃsthānyo vai dadyāt kāmadughāṃ ca dhenum ||
By giving away even a single milk-yielding cow, one acquires the merit of giving away all desirable things on Earth collected together.
— Mahabharata, Anushasana Parva, 13.75.21 (Bhishma to Yudhishthira)
vedavratī syād vṛṣabhapradātā | vedāvāptir goyugasya pradāne ||
By giving a bull, one attains the merit of the divine vow of Brahmacharya. By giving a pair of cows, one acquires the mastery of the Vedas.
— Mahabharata, Anushasana Parva, 13.75.20 (Bhishma to Yudhishthira)
ūrjasvinya ūrjamedhāś ca yajño garbho 'mṛtasya jagataś ca pratiṣṭhā ||
Cows are endued with strength and energetic exertion. They hold wisdom; they are the source of the immortality that sacrifice achieves and the refuge of all energy.
— Mahabharata, Anushasana Parva, 13.75.10 (Mantras on the nature of kine)
gāvaḥ sṛṣṭyādau brahmaṇā nirmitāḥ | tasmād gāvo brāhmaṇāḥ samāḥ ||
Cows were created by Brahma at the beginning of creation; therefore cows are equal to the Brahmanas.
— Garuda Purana (cited in dharma-shastra on Go Seva)
dātavyam iti yad dānaṃ dīyate 'nupakāriṇe | deśe kāle ca pātre ca tad dānaṃ sāttvikaṃ smṛtam ||
Charity given with the thought "It is to be given," without expectation of return, at the proper time and place, to a worthy recipient — that charity is declared to be sattvic (in the mode of goodness).
— Bhagavad Gita, 17.20 (Shri Krishna to Arjuna)
Why Gau Dana with Calf?
Scriptural injunction is clear: the cow should be donated with her calf (utsṛṣṭa-vṛṣa-vatsā — accompanied by bull and calf). The Mahabharata instructs that when the sun rises, the cow should be given away with her calf; heaven becomes attainable and the blessings of the mantras are fully received. The calf represents continuity, progeny, and the living chain of Gau Seva into future generations. At our Gaushala, both mother and calf receive lifelong care — a real, living act of dharma that sustains indigenous Desi breeds.
Spiritual Benefits of Gau Dana
- Pitra Rina and ancestral uplift — seven generations of ancestors and descendants blessed (Mahabharata, 13.73.8)
- Freedom from sins — the giver who passes the night in the fold with the cows becomes immediately cleansed of all sins (Mahabharata, 13.75.8)
- Heavenly felicity — residence in supreme worlds, as attained by Mandhatri, Bhagiratha, and other righteous kings
- Prosperity and protection — the cow is the source of Havya and Kavya; her gift brings material and spiritual abundance
- Completion of life’s highest dana — many elders aspire to perform Godana once in a lifetime; this seva fulfils that sacred aspiration
How Gau Dana Seva Is Performed at Our Gaushala
After you book Gau Dana Seva, our team coordinates with you on the auspicious date, shares the pooja items list, and prepares a healthy Desi cow with her calf. On the day of the seva, the Seva Karta (or a representative) may be present at the Gaushala; devotees living far away may participate through sankalpa performed in their name. The archaka performs the full Godana Vidhi — honouring the Brahmanas, entering the fold (goṣṭha) with the cows, and uttering the sacred Srutis beginning with gaur me mātā, govṛṣabhaḥ pitā me. Photos and a summary of the ceremony are shared with you. The cow and calf remain under the foundation’s lifelong care.
