Description
Pushpalankara Seva is the sacred offering of floral decoration (pushpa alankara) to the deities at Shri Bhaavi Sameera Vadiraja Mandira, Chintamani. The word Pushpa means flower and Alankara means adornment – together they describe the ancient art of decorating the Lord with fresh, fragrant flowers. In the Madhwa tradition, Alankara is one of the sixteen upacharas (services) prescribed for deity worship, and flowers hold a special place among all offering materials.
How Pushpalankara Is Performed
The archaka performs sankalpa in the devotee’s name and gotra, then adorns the deities and the Pancha Vrundavana with fresh flowers – typically marigolds, jasmine, roses, lotus, and seasonal temple flowers. The arrangement follows traditional patterns that highlight the beauty and majesty of the deity’s form. During the decoration, the archaka recites stotras praising the Lord’s divine beauty, and the seva concludes with Mangala Aarati.
Scriptural Significance of Flower Offerings
Lord Krishna declares in the Bhagavad Gita (9.26): “Patram pushpam phalam toyam, yo me bhaktyaa prayacchati” – whoever offers a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water with devotion, I accept it. The Padma Purana describes specific flowers dear to Vishnu – Tulasi, lotus, parijata, and champaka – and states that offering these pleases the Lord immensely. In the sixteen upacharas, flower offering (pushpa samarpana) is considered one of the most aesthetically and spiritually significant services.
Spiritual Benefits
Pushpalankara is associated with beauty, grace, and the flowering of devotion in the devotee’s heart. It is commonly booked for birthdays, wedding anniversaries, festivals, and occasions celebrating new beginnings. Offering flowers to the Lord is believed to enhance one’s own spiritual beauty and attract auspiciousness in all spheres of life.
Prasada You Receive
You receive Mantrakshate (consecrated rice), Kumkuma, and Dry Fruit from the temple. The nirmalya (sacred remnants of the floral decoration) carries special significance. Prasada is delivered to your doorstep.

Is there a best day for Pushpalankara?
While it can be booked for any day, festivals, Ekadashi, Pournami, and personal celebrations are considered ideal occasions. Spring festivals are especially beautiful for floral decoration.
