Description
Gau Grasa Seva is the sacred act of feeding the cow (Gau Mata) – one of the most revered forms of seva in Hindu dharma. The word Grasa means a mouthful of food, and Gau means cow. In Vedic scriptures, the cow is described as the abode of 33 crore deities, and serving her is considered equivalent to serving all the gods at once. At the Ruju Yogi Foundation Gaushala in Chintamani, we lovingly nurture and protect indigenous Desi cows, honouring their sacred place in our spiritual and cultural tradition.
Our Gaushala
The Ruju Yogi Foundation maintains a dedicated Gaushala where Desi cows are cared for with compassion and devotion. Each day begins with Gau Pooja – a heartfelt ritual of gratitude. The cows receive nutritious feed, clean water, medical care, and the loving attention of full-time caregivers. The Gaushala follows organic, sattvic principles and is committed to the preservation of indigenous breeds.
Scriptural Significance
The Garuda Purana states that feeding a cow is equivalent to performing a yajna (fire ritual). The Matsya Purana describes Gau Seva as a means to reduce negative karma and progress toward liberation. The Mahabharata (Anushasana Parva) declares that the cow is the mother of all prosperity, and her service brings blessings to the entire household. In the Madhwa tradition, the cow’s products – milk, ghee, curd – are essential for temple worship, making Gau Seva an indirect support of all temple rituals.
Spiritual Benefits
Gau Grasa Seva is believed to bring Pitra Shanti (ancestral peace), reduction of the effects of malefic planets (especially Shani/Saturn), family prosperity, and the grace of all deities who reside in the cow. Saturday feeding is considered especially auspicious for those affected by Shani Dosha.
What Happens When You Book
When you book Gau Grasa Seva, the foundation feeds the sacred cows at the Gaushala in your name. The sankalpa is performed dedicating the merit to you and your family. You may receive photos and updates of the feeding. The merit of the seva extends to your entire lineage.

Why is cow feeding considered so meritorious?
The Garuda Purana, Matsya Purana, and Mahabharata describe the cow as the embodiment of purity and the abode of divine beings. Feeding her sustains the source of milk, ghee, and curd used in all temple worship, making it a foundational act of dharma.

Yes. Vedic astrology (Jyotish) specifically recommends cow feeding – especially on Saturdays – for reducing the malefic effects of Shani (Saturn) Dasha and Sade Sati.
What breed of cows are at the Gaushala?
The Gaushala maintains indigenous Desi cows. The foundation is committed to the preservation and care of Indian native breeds in an organic, sattvic environment.
Can I book Gau Grasa Seva for ancestors?
Yes. Many devotees book Gau Grasa specifically for Pitra Shanti – the peace of departed ancestors. The merit of feeding the cow is dedicated to the ancestral lineage through the sankalpa.
Do I receive prasada from Gau Grasa Seva?
Gau Grasa Seva is primarily an act of compassion and dharma. The merit of the seva is your spiritual prasada. You may also receive photos and updates from the Gaushala.
