Annadana Seva is one of the most sacred sevas – offer food to devotees and earn divine blessings. Book Annadana at Shri Ruju Yogi Vadiraja Mandira, Chintamani.

Description

Annadana Seva is the sacred act of offering food (anna) for the benefit of devotees and the community. In Hindu scriptures, Annadana is described as the highest form of charity (daana) – the Taittiriya Upanishad declares “Annam Brahma” (food is Brahman), and the Bhagavad Gita (3.14) explains that all beings are sustained by food, food comes from rain, and rain comes from sacrifice. By sponsoring Annadana at Shri Bhaavi Sameera Vadiraja Mandira, Chintamani, you participate in this eternal cycle of divine sustenance.

How Annadana Seva Works at Our Temple

When you book Annadana Seva, the temple prepares sattvic food in the traditional manner and offers it first as Neivedyam to the deities. The blessed food is then served to devotees and visitors at the temple. Your sankalpa (name, gotra, and intention) is invoked before the offering, ensuring the spiritual merit of the annadana is dedicated to you and your family.

Scriptural Significance

The Mahabharata (Anushasana Parva) declares: “Annaadaanaat param daanam na bhutam na bhavishyati” – there is no greater charity than the gift of food, neither in the past nor in the future. The Garuda Purana states that one who feeds the hungry earns the merit of a thousand yagnas (fire rituals). Shri Madhwacharya, in his commentary on the Brahma Sutras, emphasises that acts of compassion performed with devotion to Lord Hari are among the most effective means of spiritual progress.

Spiritual Benefits

Annadana is believed to bring ancestral peace (Pitra Shanti), removal of the sin of waste, family welfare, prosperity, and the grace of Lord Vishnu. Many devotees book Annadana in memory of departed family members, on Shraddha days, or as a thanksgiving offering for blessings received.

Prasada You Receive

Along with the merit of the annadana, you receive Mantrakshate (consecrated rice), Kumkuma, and Dry Fruit from the temple, delivered to your doorstep as a token of the Lord’s blessings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Annadana Seva?

Annadana Seva is the sponsoring of food preparation and distribution at the temple. The food is first offered as Neivedyam to the deities and then served to devotees, visitors, and those in need.

Why is Annadana considered the highest form of charity?

The Mahabharata, Garuda Purana, and Taittiriya Upanishad all describe food as the foundation of life. Feeding the hungry directly sustains life and is therefore considered the most impactful charitable act, earning merit equivalent to a thousand yagnas.

Can I book Annadana Seva in memory of ancestors?

Yes. Many devotees book Annadana for ancestral peace (Pitra Shanti), on Shraddha days, or on the death anniversary of a loved one. The sankalpa specifically dedicates the merit to the departed soul.

How many people are fed through one Annadana Seva?

The number varies based on the day and temple attendance. Your contribution supports the temple’s ongoing annadana programme, and the food is served to all who visit on that day.

Do I receive prasada from Annadana Seva?

Yes. You receive Mantrakshate, Kumkuma, and Dry Fruit – sent to your doorstep as the temple’s sacred prasada, along with the full merit of the annadana.

When is the best time to book Annadana?

Annadana can be booked for any day. It is especially meritorious on Ekadashi, Dwadashi, Pournami, Shraddha days, and during festivals. Saturday annadana is also considered highly auspicious in the Madhwa tradition.
